B Johnson suspends the Parliament.

When a concern about the possibility to suspend the Parliament was raised by a specactor in the audience during Britain Next PM debate back in June 2019, the contestants were all sure that it was not a possible scenario in the worlds most ancient democracy.

Rory Stewart was the only one saying that this could be the only way Johnson could push for a no deal Brexit. Three months later, the only candidate absent to the debate was doing exactly that: suspending the Parliament, leaving the MPs only two weeks to debate the clause for a no deal.

What does it mean for October?

The EU might ask for a new delay. January 31st ? Johnson might try to push for an early general election or get suspended if the opposition choose to do a vote of no confidence.

THE PEOPLE!

The  » Leave » won. The will of the people must be respected. However, some argue that since it is not a direct democracy it should not be a driving force for decision making. This can indeed explain the delay and time the politicians are taking to leave the EU, as well asthe possibility of a new referendum.

The « Remain » people on the other hand, are fighting to stay or get a good deal. It is also for them that the optic to get a no deal is alarming as well as for most of the political class.

It would be unfair to say that the long process to get a deal and leave the EU is due to people in power taking their time. The reality is that negociations with Brussels are not done as they should. At the opposite of his predecessor Theresa May, B. Johnson is not working with the EU actively, negociating and proposing plans. He has not been seen in Brussels or attending meeting with EU representatnts.
