Environmental initiatives
Operation planting trees will start November the 15th. « One day, a million trees » , is a nationwide reforestation initiative that has for objective to plant in urban and rural spaces . The population is invited to participate in it, following the government instructions regarding the zones to be targeted in both cities and rural areas.
A Round table will take place in January 2020 for funders to mobilize additional financial resources . Partners for development and in the private sector will participate to the preservation, rehabilitation and forest extension policies adopted by the Ivorian government in may 2018.
Urban policy : sustainable cities
The minister of Urbanism , Bruno Koné announced that leaning toward a vertical extension of the city to contain and limit its expansion was a good alternative to explore. With Abidjan concentrating 80% of economic activities of Cote d’Ivoire its border are continually expending.
It is an issue I believe authorities and government should be working on solving, A focus on verticality should be followed by greater delocalization and decentralization of activities. Cities like Yamoussokro, Bouaké, Korhogo and Daloa should be urbanized and become metropolis as well, welcoming businesses, government offices , hotels etc
knowing that there is a Ministry of Delocalization since 2007, it is quiet alarming to see that there is no progress in this area
Technology for finance
It was announced on November the 6th that there will be a shift in tax revenues reception. A technological platform will now be used for territorial and district’s taxes. This aims to reduce waste and increase the level of revenue for development projects.
All taxpayers are required to use this platform to pay their tax debts. It is a great initiative that will also allow greater transparency and efficiency, reducing bureaucratic slowness.
These three areas new initiatives respond to ecological, development and good governance needs.
