The Geopolitic issue that the Sahel represents is huge. The fight over territories and against terrorism hasn’t seen noticeable progress. Yes, some territories have been reclaimed but there is an ongoing threat.

The summit on Sahel that took place in Pau in January with the French President and the head of states from Mali, Nigeria raised a few eyebrows.

National troops and armies havent been efficient and regional forces are countless. While working at Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cote d’Ivoire, the analysis of the situation made by the department on African Organization pointed out the weaknesses of the measures taken to tackle terrorism in the region.

Another was the absence of a good and strong national army and training . The dependence on the external aid from French troops, UN , and others is vital to guarantee the stability. Because government alone are not able to protect their citizens and stop the expansion of the armed groups and criminal organizations.
